Training

Training in communications is often highly generalised. MLG Communications appreciates that there may be specific gaps in a team's expertise and aims to help our clients to improve not just the quality of their work but also the skills of their internal teams.

The training we provide can be tailored according to individual and corporate requirements and is provided via a combination of MLG Communications consultants with training experience and specialist external trainers. We can create once off programmes for a team or ongoing training and mentoring programmes for individuals, according to the requirements of the client:

Media training

  • Traditional media training (for print and/or broadcast) for executives who are engaging with media for the first time or want to brush up on their media skills ahead of a new product or media push.

  • Crisis communication training specifically designed to prepare leadership and communications teams for managing a crisis situation.

Communication training

  • Media training for in-house communications teams to provide a safe environment for less experienced team members to practice engaging with media, including the most appropriate approach to take and how to answer difficult questions.

While many can and do learn on the job, often attending industry-led introductory sessions with publications, there are specific benefits to doing this internally. Most notably, it allows you to cover a variety of media, with sessions tailored to ensure your team get the opportunity to practice thinking and acting strategically about your firm’s overall corporate messages. We can also offer executive-level media training to communications and marketing heads who may have less hands-on media relations experience and whose needs are different to the media relations team.

  • Awards training for groups or invidivuals that addresses key elements of working on awards programmes including how to assess credibility, build relationships and make strong submissions. Workshops can be tailored to be highly practical, offering guidance on specific awards programmes with which you engage and/or including case studies and practice sessions.

Messaging Workshops

We can run messaging workshops for your business or product leaders and/or your communications teams designed to tease out the details of your key messages so that they fit with your over-arching corporate messages. Sessions include helping you find ways to navigate possible challenges. Workshops can be run as part of an overall messaging process or as standalone events for your teams.
